Osmolality Testing/Osmotic Concentration

We also have the new capability for the determination of Osmolarity/Osmolality. This determines the concentration of particles in solution and the result is usually related in mOsmol/kg units. The osmolarity gives the number of moles of solute that contribute to the osmotic pressure of the solution. ECA has an Advanced Instruments Osmometer that determines the osmolarity using the freezing point technique. We use certified standards for calibration before each analysis with continuing calibration between samples. This testing procedure is widely used with nutritional products and injectable fluids to gauge the osmotic pressure influence when fluids are injected or injested.
