Size Exclusion Chromatography/Gel Permeation Chromatography/Gel Filtration Chromatography

Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC) is a technique of chromatography that separates molecules based upon size. The analytes are passed through a column filled with small porous beads that allow the smaller molecules to enter the pores for a longer time and the larger molecules will spend little or no time in the pores and elute quickly through the column. This technique is primarily used for larger molecules such as proteins and other polymers. Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) is a type of Size Exclusion Chromatography that is used for organic solvent soluble polymers and Gel Filtration Chromatography (GFC) is used for water soluble polymers. ECA has the ability to run both types of analysis. The retention time of the analytes are compared with retention time standards to calculate the estimated molecular weight of the polymers. There must be a 10% to 15% difference in molecular weight of the different compounds to provide adequate resolution between the two compounds. The detection is usually made by either a Refractive Index Detector (RI), UV-Vis Detector (UV-Vis), Diode Array Detector (DAD). Please give us as call to discuss your actual needs.
